If you were a car lover in India back in 2012, you know the craze for the original Renault Duster. It basically taught Indians what a “compact SUV” should feel like—tough, comfortable, and ready for any road. After a long break, the legend has finally returned. Renault has officially launched the third-generation 2026 Duster in India, and the starting price of Rs 10.29 lakh (ex-showroom) has caught everyone’s attention.

But the market is much tougher now. With heavyweights like the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos ruling the segment, can the new Duster reclaim its throne? Let’s dive into what’s new.
1. That “Bulky” Design We Loved
The new Duster doesn’t look like a soft city car. It’s built on the new RGMP platform and looks quite muscular. The front grille now has big ‘DUSTER’ lettering instead of a tiny logo, and the “eyebrow” shaped LED DRLs look very modern.
One thing that will make Indian buyers happy is the 212mm ground clearance. Whether it’s city potholes or weekend trips to the mountains, this SUV is built to handle it. Plus, those 18-inch black alloys give it a very mean stance.
2. What’s Under the Hood? (No Diesel, but plenty of Punch)
Times have changed, and so has the engine lineup. There is no diesel engine this time, but Renault is offering two turbo-petrol options:
1.0L Turbo-Petrol: Good for 100hp—perfect for those looking for a balance of price and performance.
1.3L Turbo-Petrol: This is the powerhouse with 163hp and 280Nm. You can get it with a 6-speed manual or a smooth DCT automatic.
The Hybrid Surprise: By Diwali 2026, Renault will also bring a 1.8L Strong-Hybrid version. This will be the one for people who want high mileage without switching to a full EV.
3. Interior: Finally, a Modern Cabin!
The old Duster was criticized for its basic interiors. Renault has fixed that. You now get:
A 10.1-inch touchscreen with wireless Android Auto/Apple CarPlay.
A fully digital 10.25-inch driver’s display.
Panoramic Sunroof (because let’s be honest, we all love them).
Ventilated front seats—a lifesaver for Indian summers.
4. Safety: A New Benchmark?
Renault is aiming for a full 5-star safety rating. For the first time, they are offering Level 2 ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems) in India. Along with 6 airbags as standard and disc brakes on all four wheels, this Duster feels much safer than the previous generations.
5. Pricing and Warranty
The pricing starts at Rs 10.29 lakh and goes up to Rs 18.49 lakh. To give buyers peace of mind, Renault is offering a massive 7-year / 1,50,000 km warranty, which is quite impressive for the segment.
Our Take: Should You Wait for It?
The 2026 Duster feels like a “mature” version of the original. It hasn’t lost its rugged DNA, but it has gained the tech and comfort that modern Indian families demand.
Deliveries for the turbo-petrol variants start in April 2026. If you are bored of the usual Korean SUVs and want something that feels “built to last” and stands out on the road, the new Duster is definitely worth a test drive.
